If you’re nervous about getting dental treatment, our experts at Mandurah Dental Surgery
ensure you'll have a comfortable and pleasant experience with us.
An advanced form of dental sedation, sleep dentistry uses a combination of sedative and pain relieving drugs, which are given intravenously. This creates a dream-like state of deep, calming relaxation for the entire duration of your procedure, so you’ll be fully relaxed throughout treatment.
When you wake up you’ll usually have no memory of the procedure and will feel as if very little time has passed. You may even feel as if you’ve had a deep and satisfying sleep.

Sleep dentistry offers patients benefits such as:
Sleeping through
– General anaesthetic patients sleep through their entire dental procedure unaware of the sight, smell and sounds, easing fear, anxiety and discomfort. Patients receiving treatment under intravenous sedation experience a similar effect, without being asleep.
Comfort
– patients are relieved of possible discomfort associated with long and complex procedures
Safety
– patients can rest assure that their procedure is being managed with specialised equipment and personnel
Time effectiveness
– patients can often have several/all necessary dental treatments completed in one session rather than multiple visits to the Dental Centre.
Children and adults alike can have most dental procedures performed via sleep dentistry including:
A consultation with the anaesthetist is required to ensure patients are medically fit for sedation. Estimates for dental treatment using sleep dentistry can be provided at the time of consultation. Patients with Private Health Insurance should consult their insurer regarding any rebates/assistance for treatment provided under general anaesthetic in the hospital setting.

Why do people choose Sleep Dentistry?
Fear/anxiety:
Many patients feel nervous about feeling pain when undergoing their dental procedure. Sleep dentistry offers our patients a way to go through the procedure without worry and discomfort.
Hypersensitive gag reflex
Some people elect to have sedation dentistry because they have an exaggerated gag reflex which makes regular dental treatment very difficult. Sedation for some is the only way they will have their dental needs addressed.
Efficiency
Under a regular dental setting, numerous appointments may be needed to complete their treatment. Due to the busy lifestyles of so many of us these days, organising 5-10 appointments could mean treatment might take months to complete. With sedation, treatment can usually be completed in one visit.
Surgical procedures
It is also great for surgical procedures or those that are potentially uncomfortable such as wisdom teeth removal or implant placement. Patients are pleasantly surprised when they have their treatment without realising it ever happened.
